Not Quite Faux Metal

You know me. I can't leave a good thing alone, I have to keep trying more stuff. When I did the faux metal medallions yesterday I had a piece of lace nearby, leftover from this card. Wonder what would happen if...
...if I heated up the embossing powder and stuck the lace in it?

Here's a closeup:

Warning: If you try this, BE VERY CAREFUL! Heated embossing powder is well, HOT! and you can burn yourself very easily. I keep my fingers clear and use my tools (long tweezers, bone folder, etc.) to manipulate the lace and embossed cardstock.
I used the same combination I used for my faux medallions: Black cardstock and copper embossing powder, but no stamps. After I put the lace on top of the melted and still-hot embossing powder, I lightly tamped it down with my bone folder. (Actually, I use that little scraping thing from The Pampered Chef - love that tool! - but a bone folder will work. Anything but your fingers!) I then heated the piece again for just a few seconds with my heat tool, melting the lace into the embossing goo. (It's not powder anymore.)
Again, BE VERY CAREFUL!! Especially when using something flammable like lace! I used a synthetic lace in this example which is even more flammable. The trick is to not heat it very long at all, or skip that last step altogether if you're worried about fire or fumes (you'll get nasty fumes with synthetic lace if you let it burn). You don't really need this step, because if your EP is melted the lace will stick.
I think this makes a very nifty embellishment, and no doubt I'll be trying other things soon. Scary thought, huh?
Of course, after I stuck the lace in the embossing goo, I thought: What would happen if...
...if I stuck the lace in the goo, then took it back out? Would it leave a lacy pattern? That would be very cool.

Another closeup:

Well, it doesn't really look like lace too much, but it does make a nifty texture. Perhaps a different type of lace with a more consistent pattern might work better, I don't know. Guess I'll have to go find out!
